On Gratitude

On Gratitude

Intensely

Immensely

Grateful for my life right now.

This is an entry from my journal in January. Part of this day was spent sorting beads with my daughter. Shades of purple, blues, reds. A simple task rendered beauty. I could practice math and mitigate tedium in time well spent. Closeness. Sometimes I am able to capture the moments. Jot down the reminder that even in this, God is here.

Gratitude is a funny word. Cause its definition implies thankfulness– with an air of the bourgeois. Kiss the ring. To be grateful: feel or show an appreciation or kindness. But like, all the time. We tend to be thankful in transaction. Gratitude requires diligence, and that in repetition. Still, no matter your belief system, faith practice, or simply the way you live your life, gratitude fits the prescription; demands you pay your respects, daily. If you want to live well.

And we want to live well, today.

In what ways can you show gratitude for what you have right now, today? How do we let the intense and immense feelings overwhelm, be the wave that carries us to peace? Surrender?
